Why NAS100 Risk Runs Bigger Than US30

The per point value on NAS100 is about a dollar, the same as the Dow, so a beginner might assume the risk is identical. It is not. The Nasdaq 100 simply moves more points in a typical session, so a stop that fits the market is usually wider in points, and a wider stop at the same lot size is more dollars at risk.

That makes point counting essential on NAS100. Set your stop where the trade idea is wrong, read the distance in points, and multiply by the point value to see the dollar risk before you commit. If it is larger than you want, size down rather than tightening the stop into the noise.

quiz Frequently Asked Questions

Does NAS100 use pips or points?expand_more
Points. Like all index CFDs, NAS100 moves in whole points rather than forex pips, and one point is worth about $1 per standard lot on most brokers. Count points for stops and targets, and confirm your point value in the platform.
What is 100 points on NAS100 worth?expand_more
At about $1 per point on a standard lot, 100 points is roughly $100 per lot, $10 on a mini, and $1 on a micro. Because Nasdaq ranges widely, 100 points is a smaller move here than it feels on the Dow.
Why does NAS100 feel riskier than US30 at the same lot size?expand_more
Because the Nasdaq covers more points per session, so a sensible stop is usually wider in points. Same point value, more points, means more dollars at risk. Size the lot down on NAS100 to keep the dollar risk in line with a Dow trade.
