Why EURUSD Pip Value Is Always $10

The value is fixed because the quote currency is your account currency. Pip value is pip size times contract size times lots, so 0.0001 times 100,000 times one lot equals ten dollars, and there is nothing to convert when both are in dollars. That is why every pip value guide uses EURUSD: it removes the exchange rate from the picture and shows the pure lot size effect.

If your account is in euros rather than dollars, the value is no longer a flat ten. The calculator divides by the current EURUSD price to convert the dollar pip into euros, so a standard lot pip lands a little above nine euros at typical prices. Set your account currency above to see the exact figure.

quiz Frequently Asked Questions

Why is EURUSD pip value always $10?expand_more
Because the quote currency, the US dollar, is the same as a dollar account. Pip value is 0.0001 x 100,000 x 1 lot = $10, with no conversion. Change your account currency to euros and the value shifts, since the dollar pip is then converted at the current rate.
What is 20 pips on EURUSD worth?expand_more
On a standard lot, 20 pips is $200, because each pip is $10. On a mini lot it is $20 and on a micro lot $2. Multiply the pip count by the per pip value for your lot size to get the money figure for any move.
Does my account currency change EURUSD pip value?expand_more
Yes. The flat $10 only holds for a US dollar account. For a euro, pound, or yen account the calculator converts the dollar pip value at the current rate, so the number your broker credits matches. Set the account currency above to see it.
